“Do you need to buy green products or reduce consumption? How do you decrease your energy usage?” When trying to go green, a plethora of information may leave you overwhelmed and confused. So here, I have compiled five hacks to make your transition easier. Remember, even a tiny change can make a mammoth of a difference.
1. Start Small
Go for daily manageable changes that do not need a lot of effort from your end. For instance, replace single-use items with reusable alternatives, and switch off your gadgets and lights when you exit the room. You can even replace leaky taps and uninstall shopping apps.
2. Reduce Food Waste
Each year, 931 million tons of food is wasted globally, according to the United Nations. Plan meals, store food properly, and replace processed foods with fresh produce. This will help your health, pocket and the environment.

3. Buy in Bulk and Avoid Packaging
Opt for bulk purchases to reduce packaging waste. In fact, it accounts for 40% of global plastic production. Ideally, carry your bags and cartons when shopping for essentials.
4. Repair, Repurpose, and Donate
Before discarding items, consider repairing or repurposing them. For example, turn old clothing into cleaning rags or donate gently used items to charities. This reduces landfill contributions and supports circular economies. Before purchasing any new item, take a break and check if you need it or already have it at home.
Transitioning to a zero-waste lifestyle requires effort but offers immense benefits for the environment and future generations.
